Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
It should be from the area, but it doesn't really matter. Just like we'd prefer them to be current, so it's actually a "week in review" but I bent the rule to pick your moose picture.
I've also excluded myself because it's not fair that I'm part of the selection process. The only time I will use mine is if no one else posts. We're having great turnout so far, so I don't see that as a problem, at least this week.

With film, I'm usually about one or two months behind the times.

Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Yah, that's why it's not set in stone by any means. I shoot film still, too.
Let's put it this way... if you post a pic from Bon Soo it probably won't get used a month from now... post a sunset or wildlife or street scenes and they can get used anytime.

This week's selection is up. One of mine was selected, which I'm not so comfortable with but it helps fill out the week.

It's an awesome photograph... I have no problems with you selecting it at all. Congrats to Chako & Ann J P for their selections as well... Very nice pictures.
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Awesome choices this week. I'd have to say those are my faves for the week too!!
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Yah, I'd love to see a big print of the marina shot. Hopefully people will get out this week and add some more great shots.
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Ann J P has been a Flickr contact of mine for quite a while and I always love her work. I got to meet her last Wednesday, the first night of our photography course at Soo College. Glad she took me up on my invite to join the soo.news.ca group on Flickr. Great choices, again - congrats to everyone.

Yah, so far this has been a success because I really wanted to showcase everybody's work outside of Flickr. I've gotten to meet some great members too from this forum and Flickr and hope to meet more.
Speaking of which... it's just about time for another meet-up

Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
I'm up for a meeting. At this point, any day of the week looks ok except for Wednesday as I will be in Blind River that day. Perhaps we ought to start a new thread for this potential meet.

Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Make sure you join the group first.
To add a single photo to a group, I go to the photo's page. Click on the "Send to Group" button located above the photo and choose the appropriate group.
For adding more than one photo to a group, click on "Organize" at the top. This will take you into Flickr Organizr. Click on the "Groups" tab at the top. All your groups will show up. To add a single photo, drag it from the bottom into the group that you want to add it to. For more than one photo, select each photo by clicking on them while pressing the CTRL key on your keyboard. Once you have selected all of them, drag one of the selected photos into the group that you want to add them to and all the other selected photos will follow.

I took a look at our stats today and was surprised that this feature on SooNews is one of our most popular with thousands of page views for the weekly roundups.
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Wow!! That's awesome news. Now I've got to find time to get out and shoot!
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
Yah, it was encouraging and discouraging at the same time. A lot less people look at the Greyhounds photos I take which sucks considering the amount of time they take (2 hours at the game, going through hundreds of photos and editing the slideshow/captions).
But a lot more people see the reader photos of the week, which is great.

Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
I think a lot of that has to do with content, a general photo of the city/landscape will be more enticing to a larger audience then those of the Hounds which probably only attract the sports fan / casual fan who wants to check them out.
I'm sure the people who do check the sports ones out appreciate them being there, there's not a lot of live coverage of the Hounds found online really (okay I don't really look). I have caught glimpses of some games on Shaw cable which has been neat to watch however.

Yah, Shaw does a decent job. Apparently they fly in the TV crew for each game, they're not local.
Re: SooNews.ca Flickr Group
I was surprised to hear comments at work, from guys who found my Flickr site through viewing the Soonews photos of the week and the Soonews Flickr group. Now that I know I have a bigger audience, I feel pressure to get out more often
