SooNews.ca Flickr Group

I have started up a Flickr group for SooNews.ca, what we would like to do is feature photos once a week, probably on the weekends, as our best of the week.

All photos link back to your photo on Flickr and everyone will get credit on www.SooNews.ca for their picture. We may also use your photo to illustrate a story. If we can find a sponsor we would like to offer some prizes, but that may be a little ways off.

So if you don't want to participate, feel free to keep posting in the Sault Ste Marie group as usual, but if you choose to participate you can find our group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/soonews/

Some people may be confused as to the intention, this isn't necessarily for "newsworthy" images, just great images in general.

The blog "Torontoist" does a similar thing, they have a group to post images and they showcase one a day with a weekly roundup. You can see what we are striving for here.

Hmmm. I wonder if I should make a flicker account. I do not have any online albums other then my photo bucket account that I use for yeomen’s work to post into several forums.

A few months ago, I was addicted to Flickr... I've toned down since I realized that it is absolutely impossible to keep up with all the photographs that my contacts upload. Still, I visit every day. It's much more than a photo-dumping site.

Yah, I used to have a pro account and spent a lot more time on there.

I hope to be shooting more and posting on both Soo groups a lot more.

Well I created an account, had to sign up to yahoo and all that. Well, I uploaded a few photos, closed my browser, and now I can't get back into my "new" account. Tried to get in via my email, but it keeps saying that there is no such email address in their database.

Right now, I am scratching my head and coming to the realization that possibly flicker isn't for me lol.

EDIT: OMG lol. I finally figured it out. I had to activate the account via email. Doh!.

I joined two flicker groups. the Sault Ste Marie one and the Soonews one. Still unsure what joining these groups will do..as I am very new to this. I should figure this stuff out quickly though...I Hope.

Yikes. there is a max of 200 photos that will only show in Flicker....grrrr.

Yes, for the free account. Unlimited for the Pro.

Yah, I used to have a pro account but didn't renew it. I probably have 1000 photos but only the 200 most recent show up in my stream.

With some creative tagging you can find them all, they don't get deleted, just buried so you can still search for them. Tag all your photos with Chako1 and you'll find them easy enough.

I actually have 3 prints up. Haven't been by to check it out yet though....

Well, I'm biased, but I thought it was pretty cool. A link on the main page highlighting some pictures of local photographers with a little description written up.

I too am biased, but really like it. Something to look forward to every week. Gives me more incentive to go out and shoot....especially in this crappy weather. I also find it really interesting having someone else describe what they see in my photographs. ...

Is there any restriction on *where* the photo was taken?
