a new kind of photo meet and show

Hello everyone: I see that on Friday Cujo suggested another meet that didn't seem to work out very well and Ken is trying to arrange a swap. When I read those posts I came up with this idea - we are presently planning a "Mustang Sally" concert on November 28th at the Great Northern Hotel (former Ramada) as a fundraiser for Phase II of the skatepark. I know some of you are interested in the skatepark and I am on the fundraising committee. This is my suggestion: each of you donate a photo (size and theme to be determined) that will be entered in a silent auction at the concert - they will be judged by how much people are willing to bid on each print and you can all be at the concert to watch/discuss/celebrate. I'll try to save you a table in the corner so you can talk about camera equipment between sets. Any takers??

Interesting, but if you want to do this I'd recommend setting a theme sooner than later... People may have to shoot, develop, print, matte and frame and that only leaves about 3 weeks to do all that.

I guess I was thinking of choosing from common photos that most would already have on hand, like a garden shot or sunset. All suggestions welcome.

Ohhh...lets talk more about this. That would be fun.

Sounds cool just depends if I have the shot available (I don't have gardens or sunsets HAHA but I'm weird like that )

In the first post you said that theme was "to be determined", so is it now determined that it's garden shots and sunsets? I'm confused.

Ken, I prefer to matte my shots, but that's just a personal preference.

Hi Ken - a garden shot or sunset was just one suggestion because I thought they would be something everyone would have, but Curt says that doesn't fit with him because he's "weird" - not sure what that means! If you're interested in helping out with the fundraiser donations of any photos would be great, whether everyone participates or not.

So the theme doesn't matter? What about size? Also I would try the Arts Council, you might get some more bites.

This might be a weird question as well but do you know what the age demographic might be at the show? It could change what I put up if I can get some time together to put something together.

I have some older shots that a younger crowd might like and then some general shots that might meet all but I don't know - I've never really "sold" my general stuff to anyone so I don't know who would like what really.

People always like shots of themselves so that is easy. People liking and purchasing shots of other things is a bit tougher.

Ken: I would think about 8 x 10/12 would be fine - I wouldn't want you to have to spend a lot on framing, etc. if it gets into larger sizes, because the photos will be a donation to the fundraiser.

Cujo: this is an adult event (because of the bar) and usually it is an older crowd that follows Mustang Sally - I think you would call their music contemporary. Hope that helps you. PS - KD Antler was a member of Mustang Sally when she was at Korah Collegiate.

I can donate a print or two. Where would I send them?

Hi Nando: that's a great offer - I thought I scared away the whole forum it's been so quiet here lately. AJ (Anthony) has offered his Gros Cap photo, framed, as well. I'll contact you by email about getting them from you, if that's okay. Hope to see you at the concert.

I completely forgot about this because I'm awesome like that. All my frames are IKEA frames - I'll check if we have any around not in use or a decent shot. If you know anything of mine you don't mind let me know HAHA.

Sure, please email me. I haven't been around due to a very serious family situation that is taking up most of my free time otherwise I would have responded sooner.

Hi Nando & Cujo: sorry I haven't had a chance to get back to you (family illness here too - off to the cancer clinic in Sudbury Tuesday). Thanks Fernando - since I just got back from Sudbury (with better news than we expected) I haven't seen the photos - but if the two Armstrong guys think they are that good I really should get an opening bid amount from you! Hope things are better for your family situation.
