Mamiya backs--now both are dead. Empty Mamiya backs--now both are dead.

...Well, sorta. Anyways, shot off a roll of Provia yesterday at a wedding shoot, and low and be hold, my 120 back decides to stop advancing film. Same symptoms as my 220 back (as described in another thread I believe), but as I pull the crank, I hear 1 click and no tension/film advancing. So I sadly put the Mammy down for the day.

The only difference with the 120 back is that if I tilt the back in a certain direction and then crank it it'll catch roughly 1 out of 10 times. So the dummy that I am, I put in another roll just now, and after a couple of minutes, I got it to advance to the first frame. It's going to kill me if it actually decides to completely stop working.

B&H is showing RB67 backs for $550-ish I believe. I see eBay listings for much, MUCH cheaper though. I'm thinking I'd almost rather try my luck with eBay than get the backs repaired--I think the guy I bought the setup from mentioned he got word of upwards of $50 an hour for repairs, but I can't really confirm that.

Anthony,

Did you know that the 220 back was bad when you bought the camera? $550 seems like a crazy price for a back (to me anyway). You can get a basic RB67 kit for that price. I'd go with e-Bay but I'd make sure that the vendor has a return policy.

Yeah the 220 back came as-is. I have no such luck with turning it sideways or shaking it like the 120 back though--it's completely done.

$579? Sad

Medium-format cameras usually have a tough life before they are eventually sold off. KEH has used backs for much less. B&H is usually not that great when it comes to pricing even if items are new.

Yeah. I actually should be checking KEH as well. Like you mentioned in the earlier post, some sort of reassurance (in the form of return policy) would be nice.

Hrm.

Took a look inside my 220 back today and was left scratching my head. No idea what to do with it (and, no Ken, I didn't end up crying in a pile of 220 back gears and springs haha).
