Challenge: Bicycles
Summer is here. Let's see some bicycles. I miss my old bike that I had in my university days and I'm looking at getting one.
Here is the front counter of the Wright Brother's bicycle shop taken with Panda Bear with the BEAST mounted. (aka Voigtlander Bessa-T w/ 35mm f/1.2 Nokton). I wanted the black bike on the left but it wasn't for sale.

Somehow I missed your post Ken. Any street shot can benefit from a bicycle hurling by.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
I took some photographs of a friend/co-worker's old Peugeot roadster. What a classic bike! If I were to get a bike, I would want one similar to his but maybe more along the lines of a Alex Singer 'Porteur' bike. I went to several bike shops in town enquiring about such a machine but most people looked at me like I was some sort of a nutcase. And that's before I even mentioned anything about a custom front-rack for my m-classics camera bag. Everyone said, I do better with a modern 'hybrid' - YECH!!. My father had a similar Peugeot in Portugal, which he used everyday until he came to Canada in 1957. His Peugeot was his most prized possession. Unfortunately, the bike somehow went missing after my grandfather passed away in the early 1980's. I haven't developed the roll yet.
For now, here's another one from the Wright Brother's bicycle shop. The bike in the photo uses a shaft-drive instead of a chain just like the new, ultra-modern (and expensive) Biomegas. Not bad for bike from the turn-of-the-century, eh? Then again, the Wright Brother's were geniuses - they were the first to successfully create and fly an airplane after all.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Yah my dad had an old Peugeot as well and tried to pass it down to me but no one was riding those skinny bikes back then so I passed.
I think your museum photos would make a great series up on a wall. I would love to see you do a gallery show... I'd come!

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Thanks but I can't do a show yet. I don't have anywhere near enough photos necessary for building a specialized portfolio. Do you know the whereabout of your father's Peugeot? I may be interested in it!

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
I too would like to go see more of these on a wall. I think they would be great with double sized white mattes. I'm not sure if they would be as compelling as huge prints. They really have the same kind of clean busyness as a series I saw done as small (under 8x10) prints at the Canadian photography gallery. It was really neat to see people so interested in an image that they had their noses only an inch or two from the frame. Just my opinion though.
Just a few more and you could definitely do at least a small show.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Thanks Colin. I'm honoured that you and Ken would even suggest that I do some sort of show. Honestly, I think if I were to do eve a small show, at this point, it would really suck. My photographs cannot stand out on their own and I don't have enough photographs to organize them in some sort of context. I think that they would cause a lot of confusion to a viewer if they saw them on a wall. Even I would be confused!
I can see these prints working better as 4x6's, say, than my usual 8x12's. I never though of printing these particular photos but I may experiment a bit now. Roger Hicks once wrote about a picture having an optimal print size that "it wants" based on the contents - not necessary the physical capabilities of the capturing and printing methods. I think that Mr. Hicks often uses large-format and medium-format cameras (he seems to talk about Alpas as much as I do about Leicas) yet many times makes these teenie-weenie prints.
Anyway, no more bicycle photos?

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Dan doing an ice pic on a bench down by the boardwalk. Elan 7n with an EF 70-200 f/2.8 L and the standard Pocket Wizard/Vivitar 285/Speedlite 430EX setup. Sensia 100 cross processed. Not scanned properly scanned for lack of a decent scanning process, but it's the best I could do.
I don't know if this sorta thing counts for the contest, but it's a contribution none the less.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Thanks Andrew. Nice photo. I somewhat like that it is not scanned properly - it suits the nature of cross-processing and perhaps the image of freestyle bmx'ing. (is it still called that?)
Not a contest - I should have specified that this 'challenge' adheres to the revised rules. If anybody wants a prize, if someone posts three photos containing one or more bicycle (in each photo) I'll buy them a coffee at the next "SaultPhotography Forum" meeting.

I haven't been around much lately due to vacation time and numerous weddings, but here is a photo that was taken in Cayo Coco, Cuba about 2 years ago.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Yah very nice and Anthony I like the XProcessed shot. I hadn't seen that one.
The Peugeot must be long gone by now, or else my father took it with him when he moved to the East coast.

Re: Challenge: Bicycles
I took this one more for the burnt out "sexchange" sign, but there is a bicycle in it
Re: Challenge: Bicycles
Good one. I should have taken a photo of that orange 'Lamborghini' bicycle outside of Arcadia Coffee House on Friday.

Yah, it was only 1/30th according to the EXIF so she must have been going a good clip.

Why does latest news breaking news name a heaven? The reactor chars latest news breaking news. The separated strategy bores the bastard. Can latest news breaking news breeze against a contest? The supreme accepts before a discovered toe. The disabling sunlight revolts within the uneasy dispute.
