Adobe has released Photoshop Express. A free online (basic) photo editor, with 2GB free online storage and photo albums. Check it out at:

They have sample images you can play with without having to sign up.

They've been saying that for at least the last decade.

I'd like to use Linux alone but my scanner and printers won't work on it. My external M-Audio DAC/Preamp only partially works under Linux. I run Unbuntu Linux alone on my laptop. I have dual-boot XP/Ubuntu on my desktop. I'll be getting a Mac the next time around.

Love my Mac. Screen color & contrast are amazing.
It's only frozen up 1-2 times in over 2 years. Couldn't have said that about my last PCs. Never going back.

Switching back on to topic I think the stuff Aviary is doing is looking quite promising as well. They've been working on it for awhile:

They also just did a blog post comparing their product with some of the other web based ones out there including the new online PS:

PS: I'm with Colin on the Macs, have had my MBP for 2 years now. You'll have to pry it from my dead cold hands to get it away from me -- I also just bought an iMac for my parents (hopefully the tech issues go away and it's just questions on how to use the thing).

My first and only Mac was a G3 PowerMac (with the blue/white clear plastic that everyone else copied) during my university days. It was quite an investment, costing nearly twice as much as a top-notch PC. I got it primarily because of the nature of my work at the time as a web-developer. Two years later, I went into teaching and didn't really have a specific need for a Mac anymore. So since then, I've built my own computers using Windows as the operating system mainly due to PC architecture being more economic and the availability of software for Windows. Now, Macs are generally still more expensive but its a much more even playing field. Any cost saving that comes with a PC is certainly offset by the time/money spent dealing with security and reliability issues of Windows. For me, its going to be either MacOS and/or Linux in the future.

And the Aviary software looks really neat. Although I feel that web-based apps are the future for many reasons, I still would prefer an application on my computer. Especially a critical one that I use everyday - a word-processor, spreadsheet, and a paint program. We have still a long way to go before everyone is connected all the time and if I'm without a word-processor or spreadsheet because I lost my connection, I simply wouldn't be able do work.

This is a good news. However there are still other website with a cool editing features for free likeImageCoffer.com. I tried to use it with my photos and I am happy with the result.

Photoshop express is ok for the casual user. But for anyone serious about photo editing, I would recommend spending the money on CS5. CS5 is much more extensive and has allot more tools for photo manipulation. I think it's very much worth it.
