The food you bring on a picnic can define the occasion. You want food that is tasty, easy to carry and able to hold up well. Consider the following ideas.

Sandwiches

Sandwiches are the stereotypical main dish at many picnics. They are easy to carry and eat and they fit very nicely into a picnic basket. You can bring whatever type you want, including peanut butter and jelly, cream cheese, and more.

Fruit

Healthy and sweet, fruit is a great side dish to bring along on a picnic. Grapes are sweet and easy to put in a bag or Tupperware. You can throw a few bananas in the basket as well as a container of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries or raspberries. You can cut up some melon or cantaloupe for a treat or put all of the fruit together in a fruit salad. Apples, either whole or sliced, are also very popular for picnics. You can also bring dried fruit such as raisins or cranberries.

Snacks

There are many great snacks that you can bring on their own or as a side. For instance, a lot of people bring potato chips, popcorn, pretzels and so forth. You can bring rice cakes for something healthier.

Cheese/crackers

A lot of people like to bring some cheese and crackers on a picnic. There are many different types of cheese from which to choose, and some of the more popular ones include cheddar, mozzarella, and Swiss. You will find a variety of crackers like saltines at the store as well.

Yogurt

Yogurt might not seem like the easiest thing to carry, but nowadays it can be. They make individual sized yogurts in tubes in brands like Gogurt. You can freeze them before you go and they will stay cool for a while. They make many different flavors such as strawberry and berry.

Dessert

A lot of people like to bring something sweet to their picnic. You might bring some cake or pie. Doughnuts are easy to carry as well.

If you bring something that needs to be kept cool, then make sure to bring a little ice pack in your picnic basket. To drink you can bring bottles of water or for something more special a nice bottle of wine. You could also bring juice boxes or a bottle of any drink from the grocery store such as fruit punch.
