HOUSE Empty HOUSE

Post by Kenneth Armstrong Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:26 pm

Just putting these out there because it's kind of slow here. These have been on my Flickr for a week or so and you may have already seen them. It's an old house on HWY 17. I didn't actually go inside, which explains some of the weird angles. I wasn't confident that the floors would hold me.

Nice shots Ken. Every time I drive by this house and the one just past it I want to stop but it's never on the timescale to do so. One of these days.

Tones in the first one are really nice. Perhaps a good place for a (nude) model shoot... maybe too much rubble. I'm reminded of the settings that the late Francesca Woodman used for her nude self-portraits but they're were in such a bad state of ruin.

I think MY body is in too bad a state of ruin to do self-nudes Razz

The main floor MIGHT be OK but the upstairs floor (and main ceiling) look TERRIBLE. God knows what's in the basement if you fell through.

What I like about the first photo is that it's easy for me to imagine looking in and someone living there. I'm fascinated by crap like that... imagining modern ruins in their former state.

Great stuff Ken, I really love the first shot especially.

I've really got to agree with Nando's comment about the mid-tones of the first one. Beautiful. The fourth is another one with nice overall contrast and a good average mid tone, I personally would like to see more mid tone contrast. I can almost feel the paint chipping off the stairs but not as much as I would like.

Yeah, I might have to try printing the stairs and seeing what I can do with it. I could probably spend some time in Photoshop but I can't be bothered. It would probably be nice printed at a grade of about 3.5 and maybe I would burn some of the debris in the top left of the shot to try to give it more depth?

I really like the first one... The different textures in it do it for me...
