My Mom again.
Two more photos of my favourite old lady.
Both photos were taken with my Arax CM MLU/SE (a heavily modified Kiev 88) and MC Arax 80mm f/2.8 lens born in the Zavod Arsenal plant that just closed down, unfortunately. The film is Kodak Tri-X rated 1600 ISO stand-developed in Rodinal diluted 1:100.

The first shot is absolutely stunning Fernando. The lighting is spectacular, and you captured a real nice moment with the look in your mom's eyes. You must really be happy with the way that one turned out... I know I would be.

Thanks BJ.

Re: My Mom again.
I mentioned on Flickr what I thought of the first one. Incredible work. Really shows that Arax glow
I like the second one as well, but big wow to the first.

Thanks Ken. Tri-X pushed to 1600 ISO with Rodinal 1:100 is a very nice combo when the minimum of agitation is used. It gives an extremely broad tonal range. The rate of the gradiation from black to white is just how I like it right on the negative, with that acceleration from mid-tones to highlights. In fact, the only post-processing I did on the scan was to set black and white points using the levels tool in PS and resize for the web. With Tri-X, I never need to do much thinking. I just have to find nice light and compose properly.
Soviet (or former Soviet) stuff can be very good. I find my MC Arax 80mm f/2.8 lens to be better than my Zeiss Jena 80mm f/2.8 Biometar MC in every respect except for build quality. The Zeiss 80mm f/2.8 Planar HFT on my Rolleiflex is the best medium format lens I ever used but unfortunately I've been have trouble with the handling of that camera lately. Because of its form factor, I find it more difficult to hold and operate than the Hasselblad-like Arax. It's just a matter of needing more practice though.

It is! I love it, and I am glad I bought it on a whim... I was originally going to buy myself a helicopter trip into the mountains to do photos, but I am glad I choose the lens instead...
