Haven't posted anything in a while....

Post by crowellphotographs on Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:28 pm

Well, I haven't really done much personal or interesting shooting in a while. I also haven't posted an image in almost a year.... maybe more.
(OOPS) I figured it's about time.

I'm a big car/truck fan and have been since I was a kid. I just got a new(used) truck, anyone who knows what my last vehicle looked like could imagine how happy I am to not be driving it anymore.

Anyways, I was inspired to get two of my passions together and shoot a vehicle... firstly i've got to admit, they're a hell of a lot more frustrating to shoot than I thought but really enjoyed the challenge and the result. I'm pretty happy with this considering it's my first ever car shoot.

Congratulations. The bed can serve as a platform for a big tripod.

Nice. I like the angle a lot and the sky really pops. It'll be harder to spot you driving around... I saw you a few times when I was out. This truck will blend you in with the rest of the city. Very Happy

My brother asked me to shoot his cars on two occasions but they never really turned out.

My minivan doesn't really scream out "shoot me" but it does carry lots of gear Very Happy

In my other life, I'm a crazy car guy. I write the motorsport column for "The Universal Car", a periodical published by the IFHP (International Ford History Project). I usually keep my two passions separate even though I tried to find a good way of combining them. I just keep running into a brick wall.

Photographing automobiles is difficult. An image of just an automobile, no matter how nice the image is, will be interesting for its technical merits or it will interesting be to a person that actually has an emotional attachment to the car - that's it. Its seems that for everyone else, its just an image of a automobile. I've read about treating the automobile photograph like a nude but that always seemed flaky to me.

Not too shabby but I think we need a similar shot of the Pathfinder just for proper comparisons Wink

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get more done soon.

This truck is far from unique in this town. I'm not really minding that tough, I kind of prefer standing out for good reasons, not because people were wondering if my other truck was stolen off the set of a Mad Max movie.

Ha ha Curt... that's actually my next target... no comparison

Nando... That's my new favorite photography quote. It's great to find a motto that validates your laziness or around here, hatred of -25 degree winter days.
