Bushplane Days Empty Bushplane Days

Post by Nando Sun Sep 28, 2008 12:07 pm

Bushplane Days was last weekend. If anyone went, please share your photos. I got mine developed but scanning/post-processing is slow due to the million other things I have to do. Here' one to start:

(Leica MP w/ 24mm f/2.8 Elmart-M ASPH, Tri-X @ 200ISO developed in D76 1:1)

The moire pattern on the bottom cylinder are due to the crappy resizing by flickr. The large-size version doesn't show it.

Haven't gotten mine back yet, but I will post as soon as they do.

Except the Kodachromes, which will take about a month to come back from the lab, if not longer.

This engine was from a wrekage. It must have been left it very much like as it was found because it was covered in dirt.

Great shots Nando. I really enjoy your work with stainless steel. That first shot is just so vivid, it jumps off the screen.

Thanks Colin. I got a bit lucky on that one. I revisited this engine 3 or 4 times during the day and the light was just right the last time around. I have other shots of the same engine but they didn't turn out as nice.

You keep saying you don't have the body of work for a show but you could put together a really solid collection on old transportation... bikes, planes, cars. All of it would look great together, I think.

Not to mention your church series.

Well, I'm working on it. Smile Transportation is one of my themes, sort of. Anyway, although I do enjoy talking about myself and my photography, let's keep this thread about bush planes. Razz

Here's another one. The composition is not very good though.

My friend John noticed this cute little guy in the window and we both tried to quickly get some shots off but I didn't like the angle. I tried to quickly go around the wing to the front part of the plane for a better shot but by the time I got there, the little guy was gone.

This is the same engine from the first photo but taken with my 50 Summilux and earlier during the afternoon. I should have stopped the lens down a bit.

Those Elmarit shots really do jump off the page, don't they?

I used to say that about my Summilux! Beside the fact that it is a stellar lens (quite possibly the best I have), the light that was entering the Bushplane Museum from the front was really nice when I happened to be using it.

Wether it's the light or new inspiration from the lens, those shots are beautiful. I'm with Ken, you've got a beautiful collection of mechanical transportation photographs. I'd LOVE to see them all together on a wall.

Every shot is a winner, IMO. You have such an eye for detail!

Those are great pictures Nando. I love how rich the light is in them. And the last one, looks like it could have been taken a long time ago, if it wasn't for the man holding the digital camera in the shot... ;-)
