Don't want to offend
I had refrained from even askin on soonet.(Family board) But I am curious about your vision for this forum.
Are TASTEFULL nudes alowed. I'm not talking about the type you may see in some magazines. I am referring to Fine art. where the nudity is secondary to the image.
Please don't think less of me, I'm not a pervert. I studied in a fine art background.

Re: Don't want to offend
Well, I assume that this is completely up to the Admin. On the other photography forums I'm on, nudity (and other subjects that may offend or hurt) are generally allowed except a clear warning must be given in the subject line. At least with nudity, it is easy to figure out if a warning is needed. I was on one board where a photograph of a dog relieving himself on a scarecrow was posted. The scarecrow looked like a crucifix and it offended a few people and a lot of hell was raised over the lack of warning. The photographer didn't think a warning was needed.

Re: Don't want to offend
I agree with Nando, I'd say yes with a warning in the subject line, alot of us have kids and wouldnt want to accidentaly open something up they shouldnt be seeing
Re: Don't want to offend
Yes in those cases that would be fine...I just don't want graphic explicit pictures....It can be offensive to some.
Re: Don't want to offend
Thanks for the clarification evereryone.
I promise that i would never put anything graphic or explicit. ( and it certainly wouldn't be anything I would want to photograph) I was though wondering about your pg-13 nude, definately not your R or NC-17.

Re: Don't want to offend
I think most websites that I visit draw the line right before the Ralph Gibson nudes from his "Black Kiss" project.

You would need a huge pen to draw that line. Um.... ya. wasn't familiar with that photographer. Now I feel I know him TOO WELL now.
Re: Don't want to offend
Ok, his "Black Kiss" project is really out there and is just short of explicit pornography. Please consider his other photographs and projects. Ralph Gibson is one of my favourite photographers and has influenced many people. He was one of the first photographers that took fashion photography into fine-art. Though when it comes to "fine-art" fashion photography, Richard Avedon was (and still is) the King in my book.
I must say, however, that I have seen more explicit stuff than "Black Kiss" on a few photography forums and in some galleries.

Re: Don't want to offend
I agree completely that there are things more explicit. It's just the simple rawness of that series that makes it feel so intrusive. (and powerful) It feels as thought the objects in question are much closer than 12-15 years and 1500km away. A little too close. But I do agree that there are worse things out there.
As much of a huge Avedon fan as I am. Just bought "The American West" a few months ago. In my opinion the crown belongs on the head of Irving Penn. It's still hard to pick up a vogue magazine withouth there being at least 1-2 of his images. (and he's like 90) Although i'm sure this is not an uncommon debate.
That being said, It's probably worth taking a moment to remember the late Mr. Avedon.

Re: Don't want to offend
I admire Irvin Penn but I like Avedon more - just personal preference really. Avedon is in my top 5 favourites. Maybe because he is one of the first photographers I really got into in a big way. With Penn, yes I can't ignore his fashion photography. His body of work in fashion is just too huge. However, I actually prefer his portraits and still lifes over his fashion stuff... I don't know.
I went through a phase a while ago where I was really into very high-contrast black & white photography from watching too many film noir movies on that TCM channel. Being a Leica guy, I've always been aware of Ralph Gibson but my interest in high-contrast B&W made me look at his work more closely and he immediately became a favourite. I really like his high contrast photographs and his use of lighting. I wish that I had his ability to narrow everything down to a single, simple thing, like a slight curvature of a hand, without making it at all obvious. I do think Gibson plays with the sense of closeness and personal space. I feel his photographs from the "Black Kiss" project is worthy of discussion but of course, not necessarily here, but perhaps in a future meeting of forum members in a coffee house or something where we can better control who sees what and who is involved in the discussion. I considered taking one of Gibson's workshops in Vancouver last year but I am nowhere near the level I should be to take his workshops yet... plus there was the issue of $$$.
Getting too far off topic, I'm afraid.
