After a lot of pestering by you guys Wink I made an effort to shoot some more horizontals at last night's game. I think this one worked out pretty well. Look for the puck.

I saw this on your flickr earlier today (when at work I check flickr before here for whatever reason). I like it as it captures the entire event of what is going on, the pass from the corner, the defender sliding to stop the pass across, the tip by Caria and the puck going through the goalie and into the net. I didn't see this in the game but can assume all of that happened from the shot.

If you were stuck on portrait I'd either have the goalie sliding across and have no clue what else was going on or have Caria bending at the front of the crease. Once again no clue what's going on.

I big plus from me.

It seems a little dark but watching some of the game on TV last night it also looked dark so I'm just assuming the arena is dark. The goalie's white jersey is quite bright though so maybe that was the main focus point but I'm not sure, damn tricky arenas. The dirty net isn't helping the "bright" feel either Wink I'm so embarrassed when I see those things on TV. Even when they had the all star game in town. Buy some new mesh for the freaking nets for the all star game it's on national TV! And for the playoffs too! Could just be me though.

I'm glad you mentioned the darkness, there's probably more I could do to brighten it up but I was doing it on a deadline. This shot is probably worth going back and tweaking.

You were bang on with your assessment, that's exactly how it happened. I actually have a nice series that I should post up as an animation or something. It starts with Livingston passing the puck, the dive, Caria comes in from the right, this shot and then the puck in the net and the celebration.

ISO 1250, 1/400th @ f/2.8 shot on a Canon 1D with Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens @ 70mm for those interested.

The rest of the series is here for those interested.

I really like this one!! As Cujo said, it really captures 'the whole shot' and you are able to tell what is going on. The others look great too, but I think this one is my favourite!

Very nice shot.

Ever try following a player on a rush along the neutral zone while panning to blur the background? I think it would make for some nice shots and good addition to the photographs taken near the goal.
