Both photos were taken with my Arax CM MLU/SE (a heavily modified Kiev 88) and MC Arax 80mm f/2.8 lens born in the Zavod Arsenal plant that just closed down, unfortunately. The film is Kodak Tri-X rated 1600 ISO stand-developed in Rodinal diluted 1:100.

I took a work-related trip up to Hornepayne on the first week of October. These are from an accessible area on the CN rail yard there where the old abandoned station is located. Taken with my Leica MP and 35mm f/2 Summilux-M ASPH on Tri-X rated 200 ISO and developed in HC-110 dilution B.

Anybody have any photos from Rotaryfest 2009?

I went but I only shot about 1 1/4 rolls. Unfortunately I misplaced the full roll. I'm hoping that it will show up soon. Out of the 7-8 shots in my partial roll, this is the one I like the most.

A friend of mine collects motion pictures on 16mm film, which is an awesome hobby. He has over 3000 movies, which is crazy. Once a month he has friends over for a viewing party. Last month was "Joe vs the Volcano" on his patio in Toronto. He even cuts in shorts, cartoons and commercials before the feature.

Mostly I think it's just an awesome hobby, and considering I was a projectionist years ago I wish I had thought about it.

(OOPS) I figured it's about time.

I'm a big car/truck fan and have been since I was a kid. I just got a new(used) truck, anyone who knows what my last vehicle looked like could imagine how happy I am to not be driving it anymore.

Anyways, I was inspired to get two of my passions together and shoot a vehicle... firstly i've got to admit, ...

Seeing as Colin just posted a shot of his new truck I figured it was time for me to get in gear so on lunch break I exported and uploaded these shots.

Below I give you 3 shots from the Pictographs located at Agawa Bay about 45 minutes north of Pancake Bay. I thank myself for the good decision of bringing the fish eye along for the trek ...

It was a lot of fun. Last time I spent more time alone shooting the city but this time around I really focused on friends. A weekend really wasn't enough time, but it certainly was better than nothing.

A little birdy sold me his Russian Jupiter-3 50mm f/1.5 lens for my Bessa. It has a really nice old-timey look in colour and black and white, even on modern film. All photos on Ilford XP2 film processed at Wal-Mart (against my better judgement) and scanned by me on an Epson 4180 scanner..

As an aside, these are also my first rolls developed in HC-110... not nearly as contrasty as what I've been getting with Rodinal but lots of highlight detail. TRI-X 400 rated @ 400, HC-110 1+49 for 8 minutes.

Anyway the BryGuy and I headed out to Gros Cap yesterday - I awoke with one hell of a head cold but kept the meet-up anyway - because when I remember that something is supposed to be going down I'm there! It was fun to get out but I'm sort of impatient - Bryan would get out his tripod, frame a shot, take some pics, chimp the LCD, take some more shots, move his tripod, take some more shots.
Thought I'd share a few photos that I took of Lake Superior this past weekend. These were taken along the shoreline about 10 minutes north of Pancake Bay. It was a pretty cool sight to see, with the snow & ice starting to pile up. The colours in the ice was also pretty wild, and totally unexpected. I'm hoping to make my way back there this weekend, to see how that last storm changed things. You can view larger versions on my Flickr site.

Like I said a month ago, I built a lightbox to take pictures of vintage jewellery a friend of mine collects. It's been a learning experience, as I had to work with a flash and I am not used to it, and working with shiny things is not always easy. I rushed to get my tripod and camera setup, and didn't have a chance to really spend the time to think about things.
So I have been shooting a lot of film lately, mostly black and white... mostly Ilford. Trying to stay out of a winter funk. I started shooting 2 extremes... Fuji NeoPan 1600 and Ilford PANF 50 Plus. One very fast, very grainy film and one very slow with almost no grain.

Soon after I started shooting Ilford HP5 400 because it was cheap and accessible for me. I have also toyed around with some Ilford FP4 125 and have been developing everything in Ilfosol S.

I kept reading about the split ...

Bushplane Days was last weekend. If anyone went, please share your photos. I got mine developed but scanning/post-processing is slow due to the million other things I have to do. Here' one to start:

(Leica MP w/ 24mm f/2.8 Elmart-M ASPH, Tri-X @ 200ISO developed in D76 1:1)

The moire pattern on the bottom cylinder are due to the crappy resizing by flickr. The large-size version doesn't show it.

The CD is now available at the Arc Music website here.

The group's website is here.

Here's the results. The original negs themselves are perfect, but I'm really starting to like how these turned out. Looks like something that may be worth shooting a series. I showed these to Ken already but I'd love to hear some opinions as it's a ...

Well, that's not 100% true. I did show these once during a short group show in Ottawa. Unfortunately, my regular gallery would not display them as they were not considered marketable.

It's been pretty quiet in here so I figured there should be some spice added.

This small series was motivated by the loss of a close friend I had known since grade school.

Though I'm in now way a writer, I showed these with a small Foreword. I hope no one is bothered by this; It's meant to be a ...

The base layer of C-41 colour film is a reddish-orange colour and by shooting the film backwards it essentially applies a red filter to the pictures but also exposed on the layers in the wrong order.

Let me know if this link works or not

Anyway, Dave wanted some shots with his drums. So shots with his drums I did. Not super fond of the facial shadows on the one where he's sitting and looking/smiling at the camera, but oh well

Finally got around to mixing some chemicals. Did one 120 roll today and I'll probably do a few more tomorrow. Tri-X @ 400 in D76 1:1... Agitation was a bit on the aggressive side. I will be gentler on the next rolls. Taken at the International Drum Festival at Clergue Park with the Arax and Carl Zeiss Jena 80mm f/2.8 Biometar MC.

Edit: Cloned out the white string on the first one.

I hate CMYK!

I had a contract a few weeks ago for a publication. As fun as these are, I always dread CMY conversions, but apparently I didn't even know the half of it. I'm pretty used to the fact that shadow areas will become difficult to manage, but the image I had done took this problem to a whole new level. I guess I'll show the photos first then rant about how much I hate CMY after. I do like this photo though.

After CMY(with an hour of correction):

A little something from yesterday...

1 from the wedding I did yesterday. I can't say I'd ever think of processing a photo such as this the way I have here, but I kinda like it. Anyone with an opinion: would it be good or bad to attempt to process all (the formals, I mean) in this sort of way? Too over the top? Maybe tone it down? I don't know, like I said, kind of an experimental thing but whatever.
