I was really surprised when I found Annie Leibovitz' newer book "A Photographer's Life 1990-2005" at Cole's Bookstore on Thursday and picked it up on the spot.

I've been a big fan of hers since I saw a documentary about her career a few years ago. Her honesty about her career and early struggles and regrets was inspiring. Not to mention her amazing portraits, which is exactly what I thought I was getting when I made my purchase. I'm pleased to say that I was wrong. There ...

Vivian Maier Discovered

Vivian Maier was an unknown street photographer from Chicago that recently passed away. She left 30,000-40,000 negatives and hundreds, perhaps thousands of undeveloped rolls that were auctioned off. The buyer, John Maloof - also a street photographer from Chicago, purchased these negatives and has now started a website to showcase Maier's wonderful work.

The website:

Arcadia Coffee House is closing.

We've had a few meetings there over the past 2 years and it's a really nice quiet place to socialize.

SooToday says they're also closing Whitespace Gallery, but the Arcadia website doesn't mention that. I hope not.

He enlists the help of street-photographers Severin Koller, Frank Jackson and Mario Anzuoni for this video.

"Using film has become my obsession, since I know at least in the next half-decade we all will have no choice but to give up and surrender to digital. I don't think "Film will be completely Dead" but it could possibly become one of the most luxurious things in our lives in few more years."

There is one left if anyone is interested. They had three - I bought one and a friend bought another. It's not in the art/photography section but mixed with the graphic novels. Approx. $30.

Anyway what image that you yourself have shot - put you to where you are now or helped move you into the direction of photography and get hooked etc. And if you could, explain why? This is sort of a spin on Nando's post about favourite photo.

For me it is this shot here:

Andreas Gursky's "99 Cent II Diptychon" is the most expensive photograph ever sold. $3.34 US million in 2007. Two other prints were sold at very high amounts - one for $2.25 US million in 2006 and another for $2.48 US million also in 2006. The diptich consists of two photographs of super-market aisles mounted on plexiglass. Each photograph is a bit over 2x3 meters. Some say it was made in 2001 and others say it was made ...

Not my pics. The old Kodak factory outside of Toronto. It closed down in 2005 and I believe it has been demolished entirely since these photos were taken.

According to someone on APUG.org, before free-trade it made more sense for Kodak Canada to make its own film, but after NAFTA the factory became a dinosaur.

This year I'm really trying to shoot for myself. I may still do some news but I have decided that weddings are not what I want to do. I got a little enjoyment when I snuck in some B&W film ...

In October 2000, I was visiting NYC for the first time with my sister. On our last day of visit, we decided to go to the Empire State Building (a must in my opinion!) Sure enough, it's cool and windy on top of the building, and I decided to put on my windbreaker... At the time, I am only the proud owner of an Olympus OM-1... No flash on the grip...

Yeah, I didn't think this would ever happen, I thought my Canon was a tank... but I guess not... Since last week, when I played with the light box... my auto focus on my 18-55mm lens will not work! If I try to move it manually when it's on AF, it will only move a few millimeters... which is not normal... darn it!

I guess it caught the same cold I have... and I am in pretty bad shape!

Any idea if this can be fixed?

Also have another question... Anyone in town able to fix AE1 Programs???

I know that the opening ceremonies are going to take place at Bellevue Park this year, but does anyone know where specifically they will be launching the fireworks. My guess is that they'll be out at Top Sail Island, but I could be totally off on that. I plan to take a stab at photographing them, which is something I haven't done yet, and would like to find a good clear spot ahead of time. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
