Since there seems to be a good interest in film photography here, I thought that it should be fitting to have a "Deals on film" thread here to give people heads-up on good deals. I'll start.

Freestyle Photo currently has a special on Arista II 400, 24-exposure rolls. This is rebranded Agfa APX 400.

20 rolls for $25

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_prod.php?cat_id=&pid=1000003124

That works out to $1.25/roll. I'd order more but I already got plenty of film.

OK, it's not Cuba, but I am planning a trip to the Rock. I've never been but my parents retired there almost 10 years ago. It's long past due for me to visit. I plan to spend a week this spring at least, hopefully 2.

Here's my dilemma: I've pretty much reserved myself to shooting B&W film almost 100% of the time. I feel like I really want to keep going with this but I might be remiss if I didn't shoot some colour in the spring.

When I went to Toronto recently for a quick visit I ...

Its finally time! I'm in the process of arranging for a complete make-over for my 1954 Leica M3 'double-stroke'. This camera has been all around the world in the hands of its previous owners, has thousands of rolls through it and still works as flawlessly as my 3-year-old Leica MP. However, the white lizard leather is getting to me. It was really cool when I first got it but now that I'm getting into my mid-30's, I don't really want a pimpin' camera. The white material also gets dirty easily ...

My dad is the only person I know whose childhood photos are mostly viewmaster reels. My dad gave me his father's viewmaster camera... I don't know if my dad ever used it (he was more of a TLR and later an SLR kind of guy).

I put a roll through it two summers ago, and then inadvertantly put that roll through my Rebel film camera. Only recently did I have the idea to make animated GIFs of the stereo images. I think I sense a project coming on...

I hope that you are looking at this on a monitor capable of over 1024px in width...

I purchased the new Microtek ArtixScan M1 primarily to scan medium format film. My Nikon is a dedicated 35mm film scanner and can't do larger. The M1 is huge and heavy. I injured my back trying to move the big box down the stairs to the basement. The box was at least 40 pounds. I pulled a muscle when the box caught on one of the railing posts as I came down the stairs and caused me to twist slightly.

Anyway, ...

I see this topic has been discussed before, and after reading through it I'm still kind of confused! lol. I've been looking into getting some different filters (to work with a Nikon D50) and I'm not sure what would be my best investment. I shot some portraits but mostly landscapes. I don't want to spend lots of money, but at the same time I don't want to waste money on something that I'm going to 'out grow'. Thoughts?

Background Information:

I recently took a 16 day trip semi-backpacking through Egypt. The air and environment caused some havoc on the 20D I brought and a lot of dirt and dust made its way inside the camera. The shots later in the trip show this off extremely. I needed to clean the sensor but not having done it before (don't judge) I didn't quite know the steps to take. I reviewed some products online and also checked out some local stores for what they had in stock. Locally I was only ...

...Well, sorta. Anyways, shot off a roll of Provia yesterday at a wedding shoot, and low and be hold, my 120 back decides to stop advancing film. Same symptoms as my 220 back (as described in another thread I believe), but as I pull the crank, I hear 1 click and no tension/film advancing. So I sadly put the Mammy down for the day.

The only difference with the 120 back is that if I tilt the back in a certain direction and then crank it it'll catch roughly 1 out of 10 times. So the dummy ...

Time for a poll!! lol.

Currently I have the Nikon D50 with the kit lens (18-55) and a Nikkor 80-200mm. I'm looking to invest in another lens, but I'm really just not sure what it should be?! Mainly I shoot landscapes, etc. but have been getting into more informal portraits lately. (Check out my Flickr site if you need a better idea of my 'style'...)

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help/feedback!!

ND Filters - What & Where

I'm going on a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in a few months, and I would love to have an ND filter or two with me for the sunrise/sunset pictures I plan to take. However, I have no idea what brands are available/recommended, and where to find them.

Anybody have any recommendations on what to get, and where to find them (locally or online)? Thanks.

I just picked up my third missing piece of the Pentax F off flash cable. I ordered it before Christmas, and two parts of it came in quick enough, but I had to wait almost 3 months for the last part to come in. Tried it on my flash and it works like a charm.

Darkrooms

This may sound strange, but I got to thinking after seeing the posting on this site about darkroom equipment. It sort of made me a little nostalgic of sorts.

I dug deep in my archives to see if I still had some old photos of my basement darkroom that I had for about 5 years. By 2000, I completely went digital and haven't really looked back with little to no regrets. I ended up selling it for give away prices though in the late 90s, as it seems quite a few people were getting out of it at ...

Last Saturday I met with a friend to talk photography and do some shooting. He brought along his Hasselblad kit and I brought my Arax kit. This was the first opportunity we had to compare the two medium-format kits.

Some background. I wanted to step up to medium format for several reasons. Primarily it was to be capable of making larger prints. I also figured that if I needed to use a tripod, I might as well use something larger than 35mm film. As I shoot primarily with rangefinders, I knew ...
