Both photos were taken with my Arax CM MLU/SE (a heavily modified Kiev 88) and MC Arax 80mm f/2.8 lens born in the Zavod Arsenal plant that just closed down, unfortunately. The film is Kodak Tri-X rated 1600 ISO stand-developed in Rodinal diluted 1:100.

I was really surprised when I found Annie Leibovitz' newer book "A Photographer's Life 1990-2005" at Cole's Bookstore on Thursday and picked it up on the spot.

I've been a big fan of hers since I saw a documentary about her career a few years ago. Her honesty about her career and early struggles and regrets was inspiring. Not to mention her amazing portraits, which is exactly what I thought I was getting when I made my purchase. I'm pleased to say that I was wrong. There ...

Photographer Roy DeCarava passed away. His work both revealed and documented the black experience in America. DeCarava was the first black photographer to win the Guggenheim Fellowship. In my opinion, DeCarava was one of the most influential photographers who has ever lived. His use of light, mass and darkness was masterly like that of Rembrandt. The richness of the tones and the use of light in otherwise dark scenes made his subjects to come to life. DeCarava was, perhaps, the original "available ...

Looking to buy darkroom equip

I was hoping someone here might have some old darkroom equipment for sale. I'm looking for a paper safe, trays, easels, graduates, thermometer, safelight...any odds and ends that may be useful to someone wanting to play mad scientist. I have an enlarger, a timer, bulk loader and 35mm developing tank and reel, but a few more tanks and reels couldn't hurt. Before I placed an order at Henry's I was hoping to save some money and help someone clear out their basement.

Thanks in advance,

She left 30,000-40,000 negatives and hundreds, perhaps thousands of undeveloped rolls that were auctioned off. The buyer, John Maloof - also a street photographer from Chicago, purchased these negatives and has now started a website to showcase Maier's wonderful work.

I have a Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 lens for sale... $35. It's a fisheye lens so there is distortion but it's very wide and at f/2.8 it's faster than most cheap lenses but with a lot of depth-of-field (more stuff in focus). It is made for Canon EF-mount SLR's so any Rebel series, 20D, 30D (I'm looking at you, Curt) or any of the film bodies that take EF lenses.

I am selling my Nikon 18-70mm AF-S DX f3.5-4.5G lens, which is in excellent condition. It is approximately 2.5 years old, has been treated very well, and has not had any issues at all. With my purchase of the new Nikkor 10-24mm wide angle, and plans to purchase a Tamron 28-70mm F2.8 lens, I no longer have a need for this. Includes both lens caps and lens hood, as well as an Optex circular polarizing filter. See the following link for full details on this lens: Click Here

I've been thinking about the following statement by Tommy Oshima quite a lot lately:

"Using film has become my obsession, since I know at least in the next half-decade we all will have no choice but to give up and surrender to digital. I don't think "Film will be completely Dead" but it could possibly become one of the most luxurious things in our lives in few more years."

About a week ago, I shot a roll of Superia 400 to mainly test some old classic Takumars that I ...

She had tried calling Adobe 5 times about getting the media, but it wasn't until the final call that they said that the media was not longer available for download and they couldn't help her.
Since there seems to be a good interest in film photography here, I thought that it should be fitting to have a "Deals on film" thread here to give people heads-up on good deals. I'll start.

Freestyle Photo currently has a special on Arista II 400, 24-exposure rolls. This is rebranded Agfa APX 400.

20 rolls for $25

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/sc_prod.php?cat_id=&pid=1000003124

That works out to $1.25/roll. I'd order more but I already got plenty of film.

A friend of mine collects motion pictures on 16mm film, which is an awesome hobby. He has over 3000 movies, which is crazy. Once a month he has friends over for a viewing party. Last month was "Joe vs the Volcano" on his patio in Toronto. He even cuts in shorts, cartoons and commercials before the feature.

Mostly I think it's just an awesome hobby, and considering I was a projectionist years ago I wish I had thought about it.

Don't know if anyone is interested as it is hard to read people on this forum, but it looks like the brochure for the Leica M9 was (perhaps accidentally) leaked by Leica's webmaster. The M9 is the highly anticipated full-frame digital M from Leica. The previous digital M8 had a 1.33x crop factor, which was unsatisfactory for many M users like myself. This camera will be the smallest full-frame 35mm digital camera available when it is released on September 9th.

Here's the link to it:

On September 9, 2009 at 9:09 a.m., Leica Camera AG is holding a press conference. Could it be the announcement of the M9?

Some Leica dealers are confirming the rumour and even quietly taking pre-orders. Apparently the M9 will have a full-framed sensor, 18-20 MP from Kodak. The IR problem with the M8 is said to be resolved too - the M8 lacked an IR filter in front of the sensor which actually resulted in higher quality images but sometimes funky-looking blacks when shooting in colour. M8 ...
